Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital welcome Chip Thompson, MD to provide pain management services

SYLVA AND BRYSON CITY, N.C. – Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital are pleased to welcome Chip Thompson, MD to the medical staff. Dr. Thompson, board certified by the American Board of Pain Medicine and the American Board of Anesthesiology, will provide pain management services at the Swain Pain Center at Swain Community Hospital and the newly-opened Harris Pain Center at Harris Regional Hospital beginning August 22. Seeing new patients and those already established with the hospitals’ pain centers, Dr. Thompson and the pain center staff will continue to build on the hospitals’ 10 years of providing pain management services to the region, working closely with primary care physicians and subspecialists in caring for patients.

Dr. Thompson has practiced in western North Carolina for more than 18 years. He completed a pain management fellowship at the University of South Carolina after a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Utah and an internship in internal medicine at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Ga. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Thompson has most recently practiced with Carolina Spine and Neurosurgery in Asheville.

Services provided at the Swain Pain Center and Harris Pain Center include care for a number of chronic conditions, such as neck and back pain, headaches and migraines, fibromyalgia, cancer pain, diabetic and joint pain, arthritis, neuropathic pain, sciatica and injuries sustained at work. Dr. Thompson and the staff will also provide comprehensive care including medication management, interventional procedures, and spinal cord stimulator implant and management.
