Harris Regional Hospital Advances Workforce Development Across Physician Practices

July 07, 2026

Harris Regional Hospital is continuing to invest in the growth and development of its clinic teams, with eight additional staff members recently earning their credentials as Certified Medical Assistants through an onsite career development program offered in partnership with WNC Edutech.

The achievement marks another important step in the hospital’s ongoing effort to strengthen local access to skilled clinical care while supporting career advancement opportunities for employees close to home.

WNC Edutech, a North Carolina-based education provider, offers hands-on training and national certification preparation in high-demand medical and IT fields. Through the partnership, the Certified Medical Assistant program was brought directly to Harris’s employed physician clinic sites, allowing team members to continue serving patients while completing the training and certification process.

“Our clinics play an essential role in caring for patients across our region, and our medical assistants are a vital part of that care team,” said Ashley Hindman, CEO of Harris Regional Hospital. “We are proud of these team members for taking this meaningful step in their careers, and we are grateful to WNC Edutech for helping us provide an accessible pathway for professional growth right here in our community.”

The newly certified medical assistants and their respective practices include:

Harris Family Care – Franklin April Webb Tonya Brewer

Harris Pulmonary and Sleep Center Brooke Netherton Jordan Sewell

Harris Medical Associates Jamie Laws

Harris Women’s Care Rebeccah Shelton

Harris Pain Center Samantha Birchfield Zoe Clifton

This latest group joins 19 other Harris Regional clinic team members who previously completed the program and earned their CMA credentials earlier this year. Together, these efforts reflect the hospital’s

commitment to building a stronger healthcare workforce by supporting employees who want to learn, grow, and continue serving patients in western North Carolina.
