A Full-Circle Moment: Labor and Delivery Leader Welcomes Baby Boy at Harris Regional Hospital’s New Generations Family Birthing Center
April 29, 2025

Savannah Hicks Baylon, MSN, RN, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Harris Regional Hospital, recently welcomed her second child, Tatum Michell Baylon, in the same department she leads—New Generations Family Birthing Center.
This joyful milestone is being featured as part of Harris Regional’s Western Carolina University (WCU) Baby of the Month campaign, which celebrates the longstanding partnership between the hospital and WCU, recognizes the exceptional care provided by New Generations’ dedicated birthing team, and highlights families who give birth at Harris Regional and have ties to the university.
Baylon, who joined Harris Regional in 2017 as a staff nurse, always knew she had a passion for leadership. “I left in 2020 to gain additional experience, always with the intention of one day returning,” she said. That opportunity came in 2024, when she stepped into her current role as director. “The most rewarding part for me is serving my community and always looking for ways to enhance our service line.”
Baylon earned her master’s in nursing leadership from Western Carolina University in 2020. She is currently completing a Culturally-Based Native Health Certificate at WCU—a program developed through a collaboration between WCU, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and Wake Forest University. The program provides a culturally oriented approach to training for health professionals serving Native peoples. This educational path further reflects Baylon’s dedication to improving rural and Indigenous health care in the region.
The recent birth of baby Tatum marks a meaningful personal moment for Baylon—one that has deep professional significance as well. “My staff did an amazing job. I could not have asked for a better experience,” she said. “I am very lucky to have such an outstanding team.”
Baylon, her husband Junior, big brother Juna, and big sisters Ezilah and Bryce, are overjoyed to welcome Tatum to the world. His arrival is not only a family celebration but also a powerful reflection of the compassionate, high-quality care offered at New Generations Family Birthing Center.
Harris Regional Hospital is proud to be part of such special life moments, whether for first-time parents or those who help deliver them every day.
