May 16, 2025

Harris Regional Hospital is pleased to announce an upcoming Lunch & Learn event focused on stroke awareness, symptoms, prevention strategies, and the critical role of being an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital. The event, led by EMS Supervisor and Training Officer Kyle Dowling, NRP, FP-C, CCEMT-P, will take place on Tuesday, May 27th, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Jackson County Department of Aging in the Heritage Room, located at 100 County Services Park, Sylva, NC 28779.
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the United States, but timely intervention can make a life-changing difference. This Lunch & Learn session will provide crucial information on recognizing stroke symptoms, understanding risk factors, and how immediate action can save lives. Attendees will also learn what it means for Harris Regional Hospital to be designated as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital—ensuring rapid assessment and treatment for stroke patients.
“Stroke awareness is vital because every second counts when it comes to treatment,” said Rebecca Artman, senior nursing officer for Harris Regional Hospital. “We are committed to equipping our community with the knowledge and resources to recognize the signs of stroke early, seek help immediately, and understand the importance of acute stroke readiness.”
Harris Regional Hospital is excited to partner with the Jackson County Department of Aging for the Lunch & Learn, reflecting both organizations’ ongoing commitment to serving the community’s aging adults.
This event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided at no cost for attendees. Attendees are encouraged to bring questions and participate in this important discussion.
