Patient Testimony
Hello, my name is Emma. I was admitted into the hospital to give birth on September 12th, 2022. When I got to the hospital the midwife, Darci had to see if I was dilated, I was dilated to a 2 she then took me into a delivery room. I was a little nervous because I had only met her one other time so I did not know how my experience was going to go. Darci and Emily, RN was asking me what my birth plan was. I wanted to get an epidural and they were completely supportive of that. I was very excited that Emily was the nurse because I took her childbirth class. After a while, my contractions started getting worse I wanted the epidural. I was afraid of getting it too soon Emily reassured me that the medication would be running constantly and I would not run out until I was done giving birth. She answered all of the questions that I had about it. She then called the Anesthesiologist to come in. This was honestly the scariest part of my experience because it took three of them to get the tube into my back, and it took two hours! They said the cartilage was too tight in my back. I was having bad contractions through them, Emily stayed with me the whole time, held my hand and kept telling me that I was breathing good and doing a good job. She was so patient and kind. I was so glad when they got it in!
Around 9pm I started throwing up, Darci came in to see if I was dilated anymore and she said “honey it’s time to push.” I started crying because I was really scared, she was so kind and reassuring. She reminded me that I was strong and my body was made to do this, she was so soft spoken, it made me feel very calm. I pushed for two hours. After each push her, and the other nurses would just have normal conversations with me to keep my mind off of everything. I thought that was really awesome! I gave birth at 11:01 pm to a beautiful baby girl, I named her Briella Rose Champion. They let me do skin to skin contact with her for almost three hours, I really enjoyed getting to do that I feel really close to her. She weighed 5 pounds, 15 ounces and was 18.5 inches long. I am really glad Darci was the midwife on call!
Another one of the staff members that stood out to me was the CNA, Hannah. She was very friendly and made sure I had everything I needed to be comfortable. When she came into the room she would just have normal conversations with me and I really liked that. She was also very professional, in fact all of the staff was. They would wear their masks properly, and have good bedside manners. I am a CNA as well so this made me very happy to see.
The last staff member that really stood out to me was Rachel Picher, Midwife. I saw her for most of my doctor visits, she would always listen to my concerns and kept a close eye on my baby. She sent me to get growth ultrasounds to make sure my baby was growing properly, that was very reassuring to me! When I was in labor she called my room to check on me when she wasn’t working, that meant a lot that she was thinking about me. My stay at Harris Regional was a great experience!
