Harris Regional Hospital is proud to welcome obstetrician-gynecologist Katherine MacKillop, DO to its medical staff. Dr. MacKillop is now seeing patients at Harris Women’s Care, located at 70 The Village Overlook in Sylva.

Dr. MacKillop earned her medical degree from the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Beaumont Hospital in Trenton, Michigan, where she most recently served as academic chief resident.

She is certified in robotic-assisted minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and brings a strong interest in advancing surgical options for women.

Dr. MacKillop’s clinical passions include robotic-assisted procedures, thorough obstetric care, and management of chronic pelvic pain. As an endometriosis patient herself, she is particularly committed to helping women manage pelvic pain and improve quality of life. She also values education and advocacy, providing care and guidance for women across all ages and stages, from contraception and obstetrics to menopause.

Dr. MacKillop was inspired to pursue medicine after growing up hearing medical stories from her father, a longtime paramedic. Before medical school, she worked as an EMT and medical scribe, experiences that shaped her calling to women’s health. “Bringing new life into the world is such an amazing experience,” she said. “I truly think I have the best job in the world.”

Originally from Massachusetts, Dr. MacKillop has lived and trained in Appalachia and is eager to make western North Carolina home. She looks forward to spending time outdoors, hiking, gardening, and learning to fly fish. She recently relocated to the area with her significant other, Paul, and their two dogs, Levi and Max.

“We are honored to welcome Dr. MacKillop to our team,” said Ashley Hindman, chief executive officer of Harris Regional Hospital. “Her advanced surgical training, clinical skill, and personal passion for women’s health will bring tremendous value to our community and help ensure women in our region continue to receive the highest level of care.”
