Swain Community Hospital, a Duke LifePoint hospital, is pleased to welcome Norma Burdette, FNP-C, a family nurse practitioner and longtime Bryson City resident, to its medical staff. Burdette will begin seeing patients this fall at Swain Family Care. 

Burdette provides primary care for patients of all ages, with expertise in preventive health, chronic disease management, women’s health, pediatrics and geriatric care. She is dedicated to building strong relationships with patients and helping families in her community live healthier lives. 

She rejoins the team at Swain Family Care, where her clinical experience and community ties will strengthen the practice’s commitment to quality care close to home.

Burdette earned a master’s degree in nursing and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Western Carolina University after completing an associate degree in nursing at Southwestern Community College. She has provided care across the region, including at Swain Family Care, the Graham County Department of Public Health and Swain Community Hospital, where she previously served as a registered nurse and charge nurse. 

She has been recognized for excellence and compassionate care with multiple Daisy Awards and a Mercy Award nomination, the highest honor given to Lifepoint Health employees. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. 

A Bryson City native, Burdette is deeply connected to the people she serves and is proud to continue her career at the hospital where she has long been part of the caregiving team.
