Harris Regional Hospital marks surgical milestone with 100th Inspire® sleep apnea implant procedure
August 07, 2025
Harris Regional Hospital this week marked the completion of its 100th Inspire® sleep apnea implant procedure, highlighting the growing use of alternative treatments and advanced care for obstructive sleep apnea.
The Inspire® procedure, performed at Harris Regional Hospital by otolaryngologist Shawn Kosnik, DO, FACS of Mountain Ear, Nose & Throat Associates offers a breakthrough alternative to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. Inspire is the only FDA-approved implantable device for obstructive sleep apnea and works inside the body to treat the root cause of the condition. The device is activated with a small handheld remote at bedtime and delivers mild stimulation to key airway muscles, helping keep the airway open during sleep.
“Reaching this milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting advanced, patient-centered care close to home,” said Ashley Hindman, CEO of Harris Regional Hospital. “We’re proud to support the work of specialists in our community, like Dr. Kosnik, and to offer access to innovative procedures like Inspire® therapy that help patients reclaim their health and quality of life.”
Obstructive sleep apnea affects more than 20 million Americans and can lead to serious health issues if left untreated, including cardiovascular disease and stroke. For patients who are unable to tolerate CPAP therapy, Inspire® therapy provides an effective alternative, improving sleep quality, reducing sleep apnea events, and enhancing overall well-being.
The procedure is performed in an outpatient setting at Harris Regional Hospital and is supported by a multidisciplinary team trained in advanced surgical and respiratory care.
Patients interested in Inspire therapy are encouraged to speak with their primary care provider to determine if they may be a candidate for the procedure. To establish primary or specialty care, call 844-414-DOCS or visit HarrisMedicalGroup.com.
