Harris Regional Hospital is thrilled to announce the generous donation of 24 newborn care packages from the Chancellor’s Ambassadors, a student-led volunteer organization at Western Carolina University. As part of their semester-long service project, the Ambassadors planned and created care bags designed to support families in Jackson County welcoming new babies at Harris Regional’s New Generations Family Birthing Center.
The thoughtfully assembled bags contain essential items for newborns, including diapers, socks, clothing, and daily necessities to help new parents with the first days of their child’s life. Funding for the project was made possible through generous contributions from the Sylva Rotary Club and additional support secured through grants.
“The Chancellor’s Ambassadors chose to support local families as part of their commitment to community service, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their generosity,” said Ashley Hindman, CEO. “These bags are a wonderful gesture that will make a meaningful difference for many families.”
The students involved in the project include Destiny Perez, a general member for a year, and Mekeila Santiago, Vice President and member for two years, who both attended the delivery event at the hospital. Perez and Santiago, pictured during the donation of the bags, were joined by Kari Putham, RN, Elizabeth Arrington, RN, and Santana Henson, CNA from the Labor and Delivery team at Harris Regional Hospital.
This project represents the commitment of Western Carolina University students to making a difference in their community.
Other Chancellor’s Ambassadors who contributed to the project include: Iyana Peak, Amyra Dial, Landey Green, Kenna Albert, Thomas McDowell, Karina Rodriguez, John Davis, Alex Charlot, Nicole Ng
Harris Regional Hospital extends its heartfelt thanks to the WCU Chancellor’s Ambassadors, the Rotary Club, and the many supporters who made this project possible. This act of kindness reflects the strength of community partnerships and the shared commitment to supporting local families.
