Pet Therapy at Harris Regional Hospital
Pet therapy at Harris Regional Hospital is a program that delivers support and companionship for the patients and visitors to our hospital during a designated time and a day. The purpose of this program is to provide patients, family members, and staff at Harris Regional Hospital the opportunity to interact with animals, and in so doing, reduce stress associated with hospitalization.
You can find our pet therapy dog either at 2N/ICU Waiting Area OR 2 East Waiting Area every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm-4pm.
Bentley is in Service Every Tuesday 3pm-4pm; Kahlua is in Service Every Thursday 3pm-4pm
Benefits of Pet Therapy
The pet therapy program helps to reduce anxiety that may accompany hospital visits as well as provide comfort. The pet therapy program offers the opportunity to interact safely with our volunteer dog receiving a pet’s unconditional love and acceptance. Participation during the time with our therapy pet is an encouraging and non-judgmental environment making the hospital more comfortable and less stressful.
Additional benefits of pet therapy are:

- Improve coping skills by providing a distraction from illness and hospitalization
- Ease tension related to being away from home
