Harris Regional and Swain Community Hospitals Name 2018 Mercy Award Winner

May 15, 2018

Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital recently announced that Toby Moore has been recognized as the hospital’s 2018 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.

The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2002 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

“At Harris Regional and Swain Community Hospitals, we share LifePoint’s commitment to making communities healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees both on and off the job,” said Steve Heatherly, CEO of Harris Regional and Swain Community Hospitals. “We are extremely proud to recognize Toby for his efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. Toby goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person he encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”

Toby is a lifelong resident of Jackson County, well-respected Paramedic and volunteer fireman for over 20 years. “Toby is the embodiment of the Mercy Award and what it represents,” as provided by one of many submissions for nomination. “Toby consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty and maintains an unwavering commitment to his patients, our organization and our community. His ever-present calm and charming demeanor provides comfort to others during their most difficult times”.

Toby is an active participant in our local community participating in community events like Trick-or-Treat, Fourth of July celebrations, and Greening up the Mountains. Toby is also involved in the ‘Home for the Holiday’s’ program which is a service offered to local nursing home residents providing free ambulance transportation to their families home for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Each hospital winner, including Toby, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2018 company-wide Mercy Award. The company-wide winner will be announced this summer and will be honored at a special celebration in Nashville, Tenn., in August, along with all other hospital winners.
